Crescenzo Del Monte (1868-1935), Jewish-Roman poet and historian, dedicated much of his life to writing poems in giudaico-romanesco, the dialect of the Roman Jews that he considered a unique testimony of the community’s ties to Antiquity. Daniel Leisawitz (Muhlenberg College) will examine Del Monte’s work by placing it within the context of Roman culture and Jewish self-representation at the end of the ghetto era.
